The Fruits of Fall: Apples

So yes, it's time for fall baking to commence and what's more seasonal, more timely, more perfect than an apple cake? Here are some recipes that I've found inspiring, ones which send me (and with any luck, you, too) to the kitchen to get out the butter.

Apples are one of my favorite fall finds! I love them solo, or with cheese slices, or cooked up with some cooking spray and eaten over yogurt or ice cream. Thanks for these delicious recipes!

Apple Recipes

I have made some of the recipes offered at Noble Pig and Evil Chef Mom - the food is always worth it and more than lives up to their pictures:)

There is a recipe for Apple Cider pound cake at Recipes from the Riverside Cafe http://recipesfromriversidecafe.blogspot.com/2008/09/apple-cider-pound-cake.html This cake is so moist and delicious, it should not be overlooked.

I love to bake and I love to try new recipes. I have been wanting to bake with apples recently, and although my mom always has great recipes to try, it's always nice to try what other people recommend. Thanks for the tips, I am very excited to give some of these recipes a try.

Apples Usher in Fall

I always lament the passing of peaches, plums, and pluots from the farmers markets. But it's a little easier to take with the bushel of heirloom apples that take their place. You forget how good a simple apple can taste if all you're used to is run-of-the-mill supermarket ones. Do yourself a favor and explore some of the lesser known varieties found at your local farmers' markets. You'll be amazed at the intense flavors you'll discover.

I bought some apples from our local farmers market last month, made up some apple pie filling, then put it in the freezer. I can't wait to put it in a triple crust pie. And with vanilla ice cream there's nothing better!
