When we were hanging out with some friends this past weekend -- none of
whom are parents yet -- one of them asked me, "Aren't you happy to not
be pregnant or breastfeeding for once in four years?"
I just smiled and laughed. "Uh, no, actually I really miss it."
He looked at me confused -- "Really?" -- before heading off to talk to someone else.
I wasn't sure he would understand if I told him that every time I see a
mommy-to-be registering for bottles and bibs, my unswollen belly aches
a little bit. Every time I see a days-old baby sleeping soundly, I want
to pick it up and cuddle it in my arms.
