Who Are You Walking Past?
by kathiemt

I was running later than normal this morning when I went down to the post office to check for mail.

As I walked along the pavement a young lady was walking towards me, her head down, reading the book in her hands. She must have just come off the train - there was a fair bit of foot traffic around.

I don’t know why I was watching this lady but as she got closer, I noticed the book was moving up and down in her hands with the movement of her walking. And in a flash, as the book moved up momentarily, I saw the cover of her book and my heart jumped!

The book was mine - “Worth More Than Rubies”.

I stopped and watched her as she moved further down the road away from me, wondering if she even realized she had just walked past the author. Probably not.

How cool was that? Definitely a God-incident in my books!

Seeing Self

That must have been a moving experience. Kind of like meeting yourself on the street. Were you tempted to talk to her?

Taken aback

I was so taken aback but the unexpected moment that it passed before I even thought to say hello.  I had some telling me I should have chased after her! :-)

Taken In

I guess you really didn't need to ask her if she was enjoying the book the way she was absorbed in it. That seems to me an image to keep in your head whenever you have doubts about your writing--that you have held a woman's attention walking on a city street.

Thanks Laura

Yes, it was a moment that was really special and I wrote about it as soon as I returned to my office.  I love how God gives us moments like that!

Sweet Moment!

What a great story! I haven't written a book... yet. I am in awe of the process and hope to find myself in your shoes some day. As it is, I feel a rush every time someone comments on a blog I've written, or visits my site.

Thanks for sharing... I find it very encouraging!

It started with a blog

The book "Worth More Than Rubies" came froma blog I wrote about the Proverbs 31 Woman Ann.  Who knows, you could have something similar happen!  That had not been my intention when I started the blog.

Wow

That is a wow moment, for sure. Just wow. I wonder what her reaction would have been had you approached her. If (WHEN!) it happens again, will you approach the reader?

Don't know

I'm not sure Denise, I might.  Still feel a bit shy in that area - if people approach me, that's fine, and I can write about these things but in person for me to do the approach, it could be different.  I guess I'll wait and see.

Wonderful Moments

Ah, I just wonder why we also have to get the less wonderful moments. Do they really need to stand out and make us take notice to the goodness that is in the midst of the mundane and, perhaps, less wonderful?

How amazing!

I used to work as a cartographer for a large government department.  Several years after I left, I visited one of their offices - and saw a large map I had made, with my name on it, still on the wall.  It was very satisfying.  I can only imagine how cool it would be to see a stranger reading a book I had written.

I think I have a recipe for that...
